The Oromo youth appreciation day at the Lawrence Hieghts Community Centre was organized by Oromo youth in collaboration with Biftu Ganama & Bakkalcha Oromia in Toronto. The participants included Parents, Oromo Community members and other nationalities. This is the first event of its kind and all participants enjoyed it.
On this occasion the youth performed Oromo cultural dances. For the parents it brought back some of their own childhood memories and were proud of their children taking on their culture in this society. Participants had recieved awards for their hard work and dedication to the promotion of Oromo culture. Most of the performers had been participating in cultural dances and fashion shows in many previous events that had taken place in Toronto.
In speeches made on the occasion, the speakers emphasized that such events should be organized as often as possible to teach our cultural heritage to Oromo children. In addition, they thanked those who came to the occasion in general and those youth who took their time to practice and made the occasion memorable in particular.
