(OLF News, December 12, 2008) Our sources from Finfinnee (Addis Ababa) reported that Oromo nationalists from several towns of Eastern part of Oromia such as Ciroo, Adama, Bushooftuu, all the way up to Finfinnee are being abducted and severely beaten for wearing t-shirt or sweater that has the picture of the president-elect of the United States Barack Obama.
Our reporters added that the order to arrest and beat those Oromos wearing the t-shirt of president-elect Obama came from higher authorities of the Meles Zenawi government and given to cadres and so called “security forces” in Oromia. The Wayyaanee government forces are reportedly doing this during night hiding them in darkness, after identifying the individuals during the day. They are reported to have been asking the abducted Oromos questions such as: “where did you get these t-shirts from? Who is distributing these t-shirts? Why are you wearing it?” and so on beating and harassing the individuals.
It is to be recalled that on several occasions over the past, OLF News has reported that the Wayyaanee government forces have been arresting and beating college, university, and high school students from Adama, Jimmaa, Hara-Maya, Awasaa, Bushooftuu and Ambo for wearing t-shirt with pictures of Oromo heros such as General Taaddasaa Biru, Maammo Mazammir, Elemo Qilxuu, and the pictures of Oromo student shot dead by the regime during student demonstrations such as Jaagamaa Bedhaanee, Kabbadaa Badhaasaa, Dirribee Jifar, and pictures of Oromo student demonstrators who died in jail as a result of severe torture such as Morkataa Eddoosaa and Alamaayyo Garbaa. At that time also OLF News has reported that the Wayyaanee forces have been beating the students asking them the same questions: “where did you get these t-shirts from? Who is distributing these t-shirts? Why are you wearing it?” and so on.
