Mass Arrest of Oromos More Intensified in Western Haragee

(OLF News ,February 14, 2009) Our reporters from Eastern Oromia revealed that mass arrest of innocent Oromos have been intensified in Western Harargee Zone several counties. As usual the arrested individuals are charged of being members or supporters of OLF and the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).

Accordingly, several Oromos are reported to have been arrested from the counties of Baddeessaa, Galamsoo, Daaroo Labuu, Gammachis, Hawwii Guddinaa and other places and reported to have been taken to a place known as Sanbatii Bookee and Yeeyttee. Moreover, our report indicates that the Wayyanee government have given a strict order that if anyone from the rural areas or from elsewhere is found moving in the towns without having a “travel permission document” he or she should be apprehended without any question. The report further added that in Ciroo town for example several homeless and jobless individuals are being harassed by the government because the local officials believed there are “new” people among them.

It is to be recalled that OLF News has reported the intensified wave of mass arrest of Oromo nationalists in recent months on the following occasions: on 02/03/2009,  01/01/09, 12/15/2008, 12/12/2008, 12/08/2008, 12/04/2008, on 11/24/2008, on 11/20/2008, on 11/12/2008, on 11/18/2008, on 11/14/2008, on 11/12/2008, on 11/11/2008, on 11/08/08, on 11/06/08, and on 11/02/08.
