At Least 4 Arrested in Western Shoa Zone for Refusing to be OPDO Members; Three Oromo Political Prisoners Under Severe Torture.

(OLF News, September 8, 2009) Our correspondents in Finfinnee (Addis Ababa) reported that several Oromos continue to be arrested, expelled from their job, denied job and higher education opportunity, and so on for refusing to be a member of OPDO (the Oromo Peoples’ Democratic Organization, nominally a coalition of the ruling EPRDF party, but in essence a puppet organization formed by the Tigrai People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in Tigrai). Of those Oromos who have been apprehended in Western Shoa zone Jalduu district (Woreda) the names our correspondents were able to receive include:

1.     Hayiluu Goobanaa,
2.     Dajanee Tolasaa,
3.     Biraanuu Milkeessaa, and
4.     Kabbee Xaafaa.

Our reporters added that these four individuals and several others are being harassed in jail for more than two weeks and there is/was no attempt from the local authorities or the so called “police” to take them to court.

In related news our correspondents added that in the same Western Shoa zone, the following three Oromos:

1.     Tasfaayee Bookaa,
2.     Hayilee Fullaasaa, and
3.     Zeenaa Bachaaraa.

Who have been sentenced to life imprisonment on January 15, 2009, by the regimes’ Kaangaroo court for allegedly inciting the 2005 student protests and killing a police officer are currently being severely tortured in Ambo town. Several Oromo nationalists of the area are appealing to humanitarian organizations and the Oromo people to do everything possible to rescue them.
