Former SLM Chairperson Passed away

November 22, 2007 (SLF) - Mr WoldeAmanuel Dubale Hankarso, One of the Founding members of SLM, and chairperson, who led the Organization for more than two decades, has passed away, on 21 st of November 2007.

In the early stage of the Sidama struggle against domination, he played vital role by leading SLM army who controlled Aroressa, Bensa, Harbagona, Agerasselam (Hula), the highland of Awassa, Dale and Aletawondo for more than four years of early 1980s.

After the downfall of the Dergue regime in 1991, he actively participated in drafting the charter of Transitional government of Ethiopia. After narrowly, escaped the death trap of TPLF, he was living in exile in United Kingdom. For the reason, which is not clear to the Sidama nation as the whole, he has been recently serving the TPLF surrogates.

However, in appreciation of his audacious, activities of early stage of the SLM, the SLF, extends condolence to the member of his family, and shares the agony with his family and with the Sidama people at large, that losing of an important person in the struggle of the Sidama for self-determination.
