Asmara, 25 December 2006 – Opposing the TPLF regime’s oppressive policy, 7 Ethiopian soldiers arrived here seeking asylum. The soldiers disclosed that the regime has made salary increment and promotion in futile bid to stabilize domestic crises and boost the morale of the army. They added that the salary increment and promotion is aimed at ‘boosting’ the morale of the soldiers so they could fight in its war against Somalia.
The soldiers are Gebre Berhe Woldu, Adugna Tesfai Remaha, Kahsai Zegeye Bogale and Tesfai Oufey Gebrai, all from the Tigray ethnic group, Khelil Haji Kedir and Bekele Solomon Alemu, both from the Oromo ethnic group, and Abebe Gedefew Asaye from the Amhara ethnic group.
